[Re]Potting Services
Knowing [When, Why, How, and What] when it comes to planting is the keystone to keeping your plants thriving and happy!
- When: to repot
- Why: we repot in the first place.
- How: to repot with the least damage and trauma, to the plant...call your therapist babe.
- What: type of soil and pot can make or break your plant...or pot your plant can break. Whatever.
When:
Different plants require different potting schedules. Some can require a repot once a year, while others may be every 5-7 years. Some may just be needly little dramatic things and get repotted straight in the trash...looking at you peace lillies...
Knowing your plant and its needs will help you determine the appropriate repotting schedule.
Repotting may also need to take place ahead of normal schedule to address different concerns like: hydrophobic soil, pests, root rot, root binding, ect.
How:
When repotting, it's important to know HOW to check for signs of root rot, pests, and for any other issues. It's also important know HOW to repot while causing the least amount of trauma to the plant's delicate root system.
Repotting usually does require an acclimation period afterwards where the plant may act a bit dramatic...it may droop, look like it's dying, or even lose leaves/flowers. Give it time. Some humans don't like change either, even when it's necessary and good for me...I mean us...humans. Let it throw its fit. It'll be fine. (Or it won't. If it isn't, then you get an excuse to buy a new one 😉 Compost happens 🤷🏻♀️)
Some plants are more fussy than others. Feel free to contact us with any questions you have. If we can't help you, we'll point you in the direction of smarter people than us. (I know...hard to find but I'm sure we'll manage.)
What:
Just like with humans, pots are not one-size-fits-all. Different plants prefer different pot styles and sizes.
Some need more air to roots than others. Some like to be slightly root bound.
Some don't grow in dirt at all and prefer wood. (There's a joke in there somewhere)
The most important thing to remember is ALL plants need proper drainage.
Decorative pots are pretty, but they do nothing for the health of your plant. Always use a nursery pot for your plants, then insert nursery pot into the decorative pot to avoid common issues like root rot.
Root rot STINKS, literally. It smells awful. Let's avoid it, shall we?
